PCquirerX Record/Play

PCquirerX offers a number of ways to record and play depending the hardware available. Upon startup, PCquirerX searches for various hardware and configures the program for the appropriate devices. Below are the devices supported by PCquirerX.
XAudioBox / XAudioButtonBox: these devices provide maximum control and the best of quality for recording and playing back. Press record button and you will be presented with a control window with many controls for recording options. These controls can be changed on the fly.



1. Sample rate, selects file sample rate.
2. Mode, selects mono or stereo
3. Gain, select the input gain depending on the source.
4. Source, selects the source input, either microphone or line levels.
5. Phantom Power, applies 2.0 volts very clean phantom power to condenser microphones
both for mono or stereo.
6. Balanced/Unbalanced, selects the type of microphone input.
7. Display, selects the dynamic range of the display while recording is in progress.
8. Talk Thru, selects whether the recording input is passed on thru the play back.
9. FFT (pts), selects the bandwidths of the both FFT & spectrographic display frames.
10. Frequency Range, selects the frequency range of display.
11. Dynamic range, selects the dynamic range of display.
12. Freeze button, freezes the real time display and the recording. Toggle to unfreeze.
13. Pause button, will pause the recording. toggle to record again.
14. Record button, records audio to a temporary file onto the disk.
15. Stop button, stops recording or other operations.
16. Save button, saves the temporary recorded file to a permanent file.
17. Cancel button, cancels all operations.
18. Record Time, displays the actual recording time in seconds.

After recording the file, the data is shown onto a permanent window shown below.

Play back is performed depending on the destination selection.
Use Options->Play, you can change the output level of the play to a specific level. The output level is normally set to 0 dB attenuation. You can any attenuation level and the output is played back according to the selected level. The attenuation is performed inside the high performance audio chip and is very exact.




1. Play Thru Hardware, plays the file thru the device.
2. Play Thru Computer, plays the file thru the computer sound system. The gain control is
not available under this condition..

X16 series Hardware: is a multi channel recording system.
Choose Record/Play->Scope mode menu and observe the incoming data displayed in a scope lie window. Depending on the speed of your computer and display, you may notice some breaks in the displayed data. This is an artifact and does not show up in the final recording.
Option->Record/Play provides a number of settings for the recording.


You may select various channels, sample rate, filter, and gain. The input source for the audio and the time for recording. The recording time MUST be given and the recording cannot be interrupted until the recording time is completed. The recording is done into the computer's memory, then saved into a file. Make sure there is enough memory inn your system before selecting a large recording time.
Press the record icon or menu, then the recording begins, according to the settings in the options.
Play back is also controlled thru the options. Select to play thru the device or the computer.
Computer Sound System: if none of the above devices is found, PCquirerX uses the computer sound system for recording and playing. Controls for this recording and play options are in the system control panel.
